Dr. Derek J. Nelson is originally from Burke, South Dakota. It is here where he received his first chiropractic adjustment at only a few weeks old from his grandfather, Dr. JJ Nelson. Seeing his grandfather make such an impact on so many lives in a small community clearly motivated Dr. Nelson to choose a career in chiropractic. However, it was far more than his grandfather’s chiropractic adjustment that motivated his patients to come see him. It was Dr. JJ’s generosity and care for people that stood out the most. It is this same compassion and desire Dr. Nelson uses in assisting his patients to get back to whatever it is they enjoy doing most. He started his chiropractic journey at SDSU in Brookings, SD until 2004 and then finished his graduate education at Northwestern Health Science University in Minneapolis, MN. He has been a chiropractor in the Rapid City community since 2008. In November of 2016, he opened Nelson Chiropractic, PC at Stony Creek Plaza (at the corner of Catron Blvd and Sheridan Lake Road). Dr. Nelson is a member of the Black Hills Chiropractic Society as well as the SD Chiropractic Association representative for western South Dakota chiropractors. Dr. Nelson is an avid outdoorsman and has served as the South Dakota Youth Hunting Adventures secretary since 2010 and a mentor for the program since 2009.
