Services & Techniques

Unfortunately – we can’t plan for an accident or illness.  Most of the time, when we have pain, we are in the middle of a whirl wind and it’s rather inconvenient.  Sometimes, after I perform a history and exam, we discuss options (you always have options).  I give a lot of thought on how I explain what I think is wrong and plans to approach 99% of the conditions we see because I want to see my patients improving and feeling good.  It always shocks me when I finish explaining what I believe to be the problem, review the treatment plan of 4-6 weeks (as an example), and ask if that sounds reasonable.  The answer of course is almost always yes.  Then I follow up with the question – do you have any other questions?

Here are a few of the most recent responses:

So I am leaving for a week vacation tomorrow – you are telling me you think you can fix this before, right?

Yeah, so I am competing in X-sport tournament tomorrow – I need to be fixed by then.

My insurance has expired so I’m going to need it fixed sooner.

I am busy with - calving season, coaching, work, hobby, kids, etc. – so I will probably just give it a few weeks and see if I need more care then.

I want to be clear you always have a say in your health care – from any health care provider. However, I also want to be clear that when we hear these responses, it isn’t as if we have a secret technique or magic wand that we can pull out because “Well, I guess when you say it like that…” You also have to realize most of the time the injury didn’t happen overnight therefore we can’t fix it overnight.

We are sensitive to cost.  We are sensitive to time.  I can assure you much thought has gone into our prices and our schedule.  While we can’t be everything to everyone, we continue to evaluate the time we spend with each patient and review your payment options.

The research shows healing takes time, a few weeks if you are lucky.  Yes, we see some patients in horrible pain and after only 1 or 2 visits, they feel amazing.  If this does happen, you are never trapped in a previous discussed treatment plan.  Treatment plans can always be adjusted accordingly.

The takeaway? Communicate.  What are you expecting?  What are you hopeful for? What are your options?  What is it going to cost? We will always be upfront and work with you as we truly do desire seeing you feeling your best!
