Services & Techniques

I remember as a teenager thinking driving a tractor all day had to be the easiest job in the world.  The very next summer, I found myself mowing the shoulders of county roads for hours on end. What a humbling experience!  I couldn’t believe how sore I was at the end of the day!

Clearly, very few things can be done on a tractor by simply only looking forward.  Even with the best placed mirrors, you will find yourself looking over your shoulder, usually to the right.  Almost every tractor I have been in has most of the controls on the right side.  Add in the bouncing, your neck will be the fist thing to start hurting.

Since I know any tractor driver reading this will ignore the suggestion of taking breaks, purposely try and look over both shoulders, not just one.  We are designed to have even range of motion on both sides.  An important second option is to physically slide your hips in the seat towards the shoulder your looking over.  Some of the new tractors I have been in will even allow a slight adjustment for this.  By twisting at your hips, your neck does not have to turn as far.

Of course, with any Musculoskeletal issue, trying to prevent problems is the best place to start.  Work on stretching daily.  Get adjusted on a regular basis.  Eat healthy.  Drink lots of water. Going into hay season, planting season, harvest season healthy is the best way to start such a labor intensive requirement.

It is not always easy to get in and get adjusted when you are under a time crunch.  Fortunately, we are sensitive to that and work hard to explain what you need and offer appropriate services – no more, no less.  Healing takes time, but being proactive about your health will save you a significant amount of time!
